Rick’s White Lightnin’ is the best acting and easiest applying stropping compound that we have been able to find.  It is a non allergenic cream compound, that sticks to a hand or power strop readily and is easily smoothed on with a finger.  The abrasive grit is aluminum oxide, and the fluid is acidic acid (vinegar).  Nothing toxic here!  It comes in a one fluid ounce plastic jar which should last the hand strop user several years.  (If it gets hard from leaving the lid off (!), just stir in some vinegar.  It might be a little lumpy, but it will work fine.)  This product makes truly razor sharp edges not only possible, but usual.  That is important, because, if you can’t shave with it, you can’t carve with it.
