There is work to be done.

Before

In progress

Just above the tiles in the ladies "restroom" the wall surface was flaking off as if there was too much moisture or water coming through the wall.

Rick became a "tile setter" and installed tiles above the ones that had been there to begin with.  We were going to just fill, re mud and paint, but when it came time to put the final coat of mud, the problem showed signs of reappearing, so tiling seemed to be a better solution.

Jan 16-17 - Helen sanded and painted the toilet dividers and doors

The finished product

Walls at the back of the foyer and up the balcony stairs needed painting.

Exit doors at the front of the sanctuary, (both sides) were in bad shape and needed replacing with massive steel frames and doors. Outside view of the previous door

Two doors like this were installed.  There is some finishing work to be done but Bill was the man-in-the-know and he got sick, leaving something for next month's MMAPers to do.

The doorway between the kitchen and storage room needed opening up so that the kitchen could be expanded.

Jan 21 - After widening the opening it was re framed.  Here Rick is applying drywall mud while Jerry, the project coordinator works at installing a dishwasher to replace the old one that didn't work.

Next month's MMAPers will finish up this project.

We needed to fix and re enforce the chain link fencing where someone had been climbing over it and broken it down.

The sun shelter was painted by Jerry ad Jim

Jan 21 - This is the music room off the platform/stage, which needed some ceiling and wall repair, along with painting......

and new flooring.

Jan 22 The powers-that-be liked Rick's tile job in the ladies' restroom so he got the job doing the floor in this room too.

The finished project.  In back is a bathroom which he also tiled.  To do so the toilet had to be removed...

and reinstalled.  It is NOT as it appears.  Rick is sitting on the toilet to squish the wax sealing ring down before tightening the bolts to hold it down.  This toilet installation, unlike some of the others, was pretty much problem free.

Next month's MMAPers will paint the walls.

Days off were spent......

Jan 12 - Rick carving in the back of his truck.  Easier to clean up this way.

Jan 12 - Helen experimented and made an orange meringue pie. Rick says to make it again.

Jan 20 - Rick wouldn't be doing this in Westbank this time of the year!

Sightseeing in downtown San Bernardino - Jan 20

To the left of the spiked tree is a bare section in the shape of an arrowhead which measures 1,375 feet long and 449 feet wide, comprising an area of 7 1/2 acres. The material of which it is composed is different in formation from adjacent parts of the mountain, consisting chiefly of disintegrated white quartz, and light gray granite, and supporting a growth of short white sage and weeds This lighter vegetation shows in sharp contrast to the dark green growth of surrounding chapparal and greasewood.

To the right of the spiked tree and other evergreen tree is a white building.  This is the Arrowhead Springs Hotel and Spa. The location has three unique features: the Arrowhead on the side of the mountain, the natural springs, and the historic hotel.  Arrowhead Springs HotelThe Arrowhead springs have been known for centuries by local Indians and settlers as restorative waters. The spring waters have been considered some of the hottest springs in the world, boiling out at 196 to 202 degrees.  Existing Building Area = 308,170 square feet.

Arrowhead Springs Hotel was one of Hollywood's favorite get-away's in the 1940s and '50s.  In 1962 Dr. William R. Bright, founder of CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST, purchased the property as their International Headquarters - Now located in Orlando Florida.
